Ramey & Schwaller is delighted to announce Dan Krueger is joining the firm as a partner, expanding the firm's expertise in all areas of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, and Oilfield Technology. Dan brings over 20 years of patent prosecution, opinion, and litigation experience to the firm that, together with his grasp of the technology, enables him to guide his clients with respect to the existing patent landscape and to provide accurate, efficient protection of their innovations. Dan's clients love having an attorney that provides big-picture context for their decisions and common-sense recommendations on how to reach their goals domestically and abroad.

Dan has been a fixture in Houston's intellectual property community since 1998, when he transferred from the Austin office of Conley Rose to be near his fiancée. Recognizing a wide-felt need for training and mentorship in Houston, Dan quickly began organizing brown-bag lunches, happy hours, and other events where patent practitioners could gather to discuss the finer points of the profession and promulgate best practices. (Currently these events take the form of a monthly happy hour attended by solo and small firm practitioners from all over Houston.) While continuing to work full time at the Houston office of Conley Rose, Dan attended the evening program at University of Houston's Law Center, graduating with his J.D. in 2004. Thereafter Dan became active in HIPLA (the Houston Intellectual Property Law Association), and more recently in NAPP (the National Association of Patent Practitioners) where he has been elected President and is now working to organize local meetups of patent practitioners nationwide.

Before joining the Austin office of Conley Rose as a technical advisor and becoming a patent agent, Dan obtained a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with an emphasis in computer science and physics, a master's degree in solid state electronics, and a doctorate in digital communications. While in school, Dan worked part time as a research assistant at the University of Tulsa's Artificial Lift Project and as a consultant doing programming and digital circuit design for an automated assembly line company. After graduation came a post-doctoral research fellowship and a job at Texas Instruments working with digital signal processing systems. As a consequence of his education and experience, Dan can easily engage with inventors working at the lowest levels of messy implementation details to the highest levels of abstraction and anywhere in between.

Dan says, “Ramey & Schwaller is based in Texas, but has an international reach that attracts clients from all over the world. They provide a full suite of intellectual property prosecution and litigation services that complements my patent practice, enabling me to offer clients one-stop access to all forms of IP protection including portfolio development and licensing. It's a great fit for me and my clients.”

“We are proud to have Dan on board,” says Bill Ramey. “Ramey & Schwaller is dedicated to enhancing client results through efficient practice management, innovative technologies, and the use of top-notch professionals like Dan. We look forward to a long, productive relationship.”

Our attorneys have worked at the large downtown law firms, and gained the valued skills and tactics available at the mega firms. We chose to use that experience to open a boutique firm where we could offer our clients personalized legal representation. We chose to locate our office in a suburban environment to keep our rates reasonable. We are mindful of our clients’ bottom lines and financial constraints and work diligently to keep their legal costs within their budgets.
