Ramey LLP has announced that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit on behalf of its client, AML IP, LLC, against WYNDHAM REWARDS, INC. The legal action is regards to the infringement of U.S. Patent No. 7,177,838, which covers "Method and Apparatus for Conducting Electronic Commerce Transactions Using Electronic Tokens."
The lawsuit was filed on April 8, 2025, in the Western District of Texas, Midland/Odessa Division. As part of the original complaint, AML IP, LLC has requested a jury trial.
This legal action aims to address the unauthorized use of AML IP's patented technology by Wyndham Rewards and seeks appropriate relief for any infringement. The patent in question relates to electronic token systems used in e-commerce transactions, which have become increasingly important in loyalty programs and digital reward systems across the hospitality industry.
"Electronic commerce patents are particularly relevant in today's digital economy," noted an industry observer familiar with similar cases. "As hotel chains and travel companies expand their digital offerings and loyalty programs, the systems that facilitate these transactions become increasingly valuable intellectual property."
The lawsuit reflects the growing importance of intellectual property protection in the digital commerce space, particularly as traditional hospitality businesses enhance their electronic transaction capabilities and rewards programs.
